It's really gonna happen!

I got the email last week.... "I will be meeting with the adoption worker to transfer the case from 'foster' to 'adopt'."

I read that again.  and again.  I can't believe it!

(I don't know the 'official' terms - but...) Benjamin and Aaron are no longer 'foster' kids - but rather are 'adopt' kids....

IT'S REALLY GONNA HAPPEN ! ! ! !

The meeting took place Tuesday afternoon.  Our caseworker told the adoption worker all about the Beaty Bunch.  All about all the kids we have, our hectic life, and hopefully - our crazy views about religion (I'd call it our passionate love for Jesus - but I'm sure that's not how it's viewed by all of DCFS!)

The adoption worker is ready to get this all done and overwith.  The boys have to live with us for 6 months.   I'm counting the days.  Soon after June 20th - there should be a court date to finalize the adoption!

IT'S REALLY GONNA HAPPEN ! ! ! !

A New Name "SURE!"

~In May of 2000, we received a phone call about a little girl who needed a home.  We said “Sure!” and “A” moved in with us.  She increased our family from 5 kids to 6. We adopted her about 3 years later.
~We learned in January of 2009 that another 3 month old baby needed a home.  We said “Sure!”  “L” increased our family from 6 kids – to 7.
~We learned later that summer that “L” had a sibling that was due to be born in March of 2010 and when asked if we were interested – we said “Sure!”  “Little L” was born (2 months early!) in January of 2010, and he increased our number to a total of 8 children!
~In September, 2010, we learned that there were two boys needing a forever family.  We were asked to consider being that forever family - and of course we said "Sure!" "B"&"A" moved in permanently to the Beaty home on December 20th.
We’ve moved from 5 kids to 6 kids – to 7 kids – to 8 kids – to 10 kids!!!

As we were having our biological children, we carefully prayed about what to name each one.  We decided to use Biblical names and choose those names based on that person in the Bible and what they did or stood for.

Adopted kids come into a family with so much ‘background’ that we believe by giving them a new name we are ‘claiming them as our own’ and giving them a ‘fresh start’ in a loving, healthy family!  It’s almost like being ‘born’ into a new family.

We believe that a name change is supported in Scripture.

Many times throughout Scripture we see where God gives a person a new name ~ Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Saul to Paul, Levi to Matthew, and He even called Peter “The Rock”!

When the time came to adopt “A”, we decided to change her name – to a Biblical name, one that we chose, so that she was ‘truly’ ours!

In the same way – as we adopt these younger 4 boys, we are going to change their names.  Until their adoption is final – we will use their ‘new names’ as their nicknames.

We would like to share with you the names of our children – and a line or two about what each name stands for.

Caleb Daniel ~
CALEB had faith in God and was one of the 12 spies that believed God could give the Canaanite land to the Hebrews.
DANIEL survived the lion’s den, and lived a Godly lifestyle for all of his life.

Hannah Joy ~
HANNAH prayed for a son and God answered that prayer. She dedicated her son to the Lord's service and he became a godly prophet.
JOY because she brought joy to our lives.

Joseph Peter ~
JOSEPH in the Old Testament, lived out his faith despite the incredible trials he endured. Joseph in the New Testament was the man chosen by God to be the earthly father of His son.
PETER was known as “the Rock” and was one of Christ's key disciples.

Johnmark Isaac ~
JOHNMARK was known as the Evangelist. He went on several missionary journeys and wrote the Gospel of Mark.
ISSAC means Laughter, and this baby brought a smile to our life in the midst of a crazy period in our lives!

Sarah Faith ~
SARAH, in her old age, gave birth to a son.  She was praised for obeying her husband.
FAITH was a necessary part of her delivery and birth.

Elizabeth Hope ~
ELIZABETH was the mother of John the Baptist and was a righteous woman.
HOPE because we believed that adopting this girl would give her hope for a future.

Benjamin Paul ~
BENJAMIN was loved deeply by his father.  He was the younger brother of Joseph.
PAUL got a new name when he met Jesus, and followed God his whole life. He is probably the most famous member of the tribe of Benjamin.

Aaron Joshua ~
AARON was a priest, a great support to his brother, and made things right with God as soon as necessary.
JOSHUA was the other spy (with Caleb) who chose to believe God and go against the crowd. He led Israel as they moved into the Promised Land.

Samuel David ~
SAMUEL heard, and listened to, the voice of God. He was a Godly prophet who led Israel in the time of the judges and kings.
DAVID was a great king and a musician. He was known as a "man after God's own heart".

Noah Levi ~
NOAH was a righteous man who listened to God and obeyed Him.
LEVI in the Old Testament his family became the Levites who were the Biblical priests. In the New Testament, Levi was also known as Matthew, the disciple and author of the Gospel bearing his name.

So
~there you have it~
a compilation of biblical names
for a whole BEATY BUNCH!!!

Caleb, Hannah, Joseph, Johnmark, Sarah, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Aaron, Samuel, and Noah!

Dear Santa,

I wonder how many Christmas letters are written to Santa like this one:

Well I don't know if you remember me or not

I'm one of the kids they brought in from the home
I was the red-haired boy in an old green flannel shirt
You may not have seen me I was standing off alone
I didn't come and talk to you, 'cause that's never worked before
And you'll prob'ly never see this letter anyway
But just in case there's something you can do to help me out
I'll ask you one more time

All I really want for Christmas
Is someone to tuck me in
A shoulder to cry on if I lose
Shoulders to ride on if I win
There's so much I could ask for
But there's just one thing I need
All I really want for Christmas is a family

Well I guess I should go ahead and tell you now
If it's really true about that list you have
Somehow I always seem to end up in a fight
But I'm really trying hard not to be bad
But maybe if I had a brother or a dad to wrestle with
Well, maybe they could teach me how to get along
And from everything I've heard
Sounds like the greatest gift on earth would be a mom

All I really want for Christmas
Is someone to tuck me in
A shoulder to cry on if I lose
Shoulders to ride on if I win
There's so much I could ask for
But there's just one thing I need

All I really want for Christmas
Is someone who'll be there
To sing me
For the next 100 years
And it's OK if they're not perfect
Well, even if they're a little broken, that's alright
'Cause so am I

Well, I guess I should go
It's almost time for bed
And maybe next time I write you
I'll be at home

'Cause all I really want for Christmas
Is someone to tuck me in
Tell me I'll never be alone
Someone whose love will never end
Of all that I could ask for
Well, there's just one thing I need
All I really want for Christmas
All I really want for Christmas is a family

Just a family

That's all I really need

I love that line up there that says ~
~ And it's OK if they're not perfect,
Well, even if they're a little broken,
that's alright, 'Cause so am I

Consider being the answer to a 'Dear Santa' letter.

All I Really Want For Christmas

It has been a bittersweet week!

It’s incredibly sweet in that last Sunday we picked up our two new boys and brought them home forever!

It’s bitter in that they left the wonderful foster home where they’ve spent the last two years. Their wonderful “Mommy Juanita” has invested so much in their lives and we are so thankful for all that she has done to make an eternal difference for them!

Despite having many foster kids over the past decade, this will be a new experience for us as we work at integrating these boys who are four and six into our family. They come with more of a life of experiences, joys and sorrows than the other kids that we’ve adopted and are in the process of adopting.

Over the past two months, we’ve had them over for many weekends and then a couple weeks ago, we met with their foster mother and their counselor to tell them that God had answered their prayers, and that He had provided a “forever home” for them. They were excited and have begun to express their excitement at “becoming Beaty’s”.

On Monday, we took them to their new schools and started that part of the transition. On Tuesday, they met their new doctor. On Wednesday, we introduced them to our favorite restaurant! While they have started the integration process, there are many more steps in the process that are yet to come.

Please pray for us as we continue this transition tonight, tomorrow, later this week, next year, and for the rest of our lives!

I don’t know what all of those potential issues may be, but they may include such simple things as:

  • Different schedules since both boys are in public school instead of being home schooled.
  • Different seating arrangements for meals.
  • Different seating arrangements in our van.
  • Hooking FOUR kids in car seats.

CHANGES...Needing to remodel our dining room/kitchen and tear a wall out!
CHANGES...Needing to change our laundry area.
CHANGES...Doing more things for more people as these guys are less self-sufficient than our teenagers.

  • Differences in parenting styles between birth family, foster family, and now the adoptive family.
  • Explaining to people why we aren’t totally crazy for having a “large family” of five kids and then adopting “five more” for a total of TEN kids?!?!

QUESTIONS…would it really cost over $90 withOUT popcorn or pop to take my family to see Narnia this weekend?
QUESTIONS...would it be over $150 to go to a Prairie Thunder game…again withOUT food or souvenirs?
QUESTIONS...$400 for ONE DAY at Six Flags?
QUESTIONS...will we have to purchase THREE Family Pleasers at Monicals?
QUESTIONS...if we only buy off of the Dollar Menu, how many McDoubles and McChickens will it take to feed them all?

  • Will the hot water heater keep up with Sunday morning showers?
  • How will we keep everybody engaged…from baby-20 year olds?
  • Will Verizon ever allow us to have enough lines for these kids?

SCHEDULING extra doctor, dentist, counseling appointments
SCHEDULING extra visits from multiple CASA workers, caseworkers, siblings
SCHEDULING extra trips to the grocery store! How many gallons of milk, koolaid, tea, and coffee will we go through in a week?

Of course, these are just the surface issues, the deeper ones I’m sure will start to come up in the coming weeks.

Please keep us in your prayers as we keep following the Lord in our faithfulness to care for the orphans! (Oh…by the way…join Karen and me on February 19th as we’ll be speaking on fostering at the Orphan Care Conference…we may have more or less answers at that point LOL http://www.connectingheartsconference.org)

~~ Family Tree ~~

**This is an older blog that I had deleted accidentally - so if it sounds familiar - it probably is!

Last week, four dear little kids 'family tree' was changed. It was decided that it would be best for them to be grafted into an adoptive family. Wow. I have such mixed emotions for these little guys. *A* & *B* will become "A.Beaty" and "B.Beaty". WOW! Their lives will have such a different history.

You didn't ask for this
Nobody ever would
Caught in the middle of this dysfunction
It's your sad reality
It's your messed up family tree
And all your left with all these questions

Are you gonna be like your father was and his father was?
Do you have to carry what they've handed down?

No, this is not your legacy
This is not your destiny
Yesterday does not define you
No, this is not your legacy
This is not your meant to be
I can break the chains that bind you

I have a dream for you
It's better than where you've been
It's bigger than your imagination
You're gonna find real love
And you're gonna hold your kids
You'll change the course of generations

No, this is not your legacy
This is not your destiny
Yesterday does not define you
No, this is not your legacy
This is not your meant to be
I can break the chains that bind you

Cause you're my child
You're my chosen
You are loved
You are loved
And I will restore
All that was broken
You are loved
You are loved

And just like the seasons change
Winter into spring
You're brining new life to your family tree now
Yes you are
You are
No, this will be your legacy
This will be your destiny
Yesterday did not define you
No, this will be your legacy
This will be your meant to be
I can break the chains that bind you

And just like the seasons change
Winter into spring
You're brining new life to your family tree now

Do you every wonder "What if...."

Once in a GREAT while
- I wonder -

What if....

What if we hadn't decided to foster?

What if we hadn't adopted?

Our youngest would be in 7th grade - we'd be 'home free' from babysitters and diapers and temper tantrums. We'd be thinking about high school & college graduations and weddings - and...wow, in a few years - GRANDKIDS.

Maybe not free from the tantrums..

Instead - I'm thinking about teeth cutting for the first time and potty training and registering kids in pre-school and teaching A,B,C's and I'm the crazy one who, as I walk through the store, you hear me saying "I Spy something yellow that monkeys like to eat".

The big argument Wednesday was that Elmo is RED, and Grover is BLUE. Elmo is not blue.

Yesterday, our two year old decided to take the (pretend) shotgun and shoot the dog. She didn't die - so in addition to shooting with the shotgun, he shot with his other hand as well. Then, he went to shoot Daddy!

Life is so fun with little ones around. What if I didn't get to enjoy that?

Matthew West sings a song called "Motions". I listened to it this morning - and God has been speaking.

I don't want to spend my whole life asking - What if I had given everything? Instead of going through the motions....

WOW! That is so convicting. What if...we don't adopt these 4 little boys? What if we hadn't adopted Elizabeth. What if we let 'the system' have them? What if I don't give EVERYTHING (including my 'freedom' from kids) to God?

Andrew and I are so COMPELLED to care for these boys - We know it will be hard. They are not free from the baggage that comes with orphans. There will be struggles. Somedays I will question my sanity. But God has placed 'an all consuming passion' inside of us to care for the fatherless. You just can't argue with PASSION that is God based.

I wonder.... What if.....

What if they finish high school and graduate?

What if they decided to wait till marriage to have sex?

What if they decide to get a job and serve as an usher at church? or teach Sunday School? or sing on the worship team?

What if they fall in love with JESUS?

What if God gets ahold of their heart?

What if they teach their children to love Jesus?

What if they pray for their grandchildren?

What if they gave EVERYTHING to Jesus?

What if ... we really GAVE everything?

(listen to this song:)

This might hurt, it's not safe

But I know that I've gotta make a change
I don't care if I break,
At least I'll be feeling something
'Cause just okay is not enough
Help me fight through the nothingness of life

I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking,
"What if I had given everything,
instead of going through the motions?"

No regrets, not this time
I'm gonna let my heart defeat my mind
Let Your love make me whole
I think I'm finally feeling something
'Cause just okay is not enough
Help me fight through the nothingness of this life

'Cause I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking,
"What if I had given everything,
instead of going through the motions?"

take me all the way (take me all the way)
take me all the way ('cause I don't wanna go through the motions)
take me all the way (I know I'm finally feeling something real)
take me all the way

I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking,
"What if I had given everything,
instead of going through the motions?"

I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking,
"What if I had given everything,
instead of going through the motions?"

take me all the way (take me all the way)
take me all the way (I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go)
take me all the way (through the motions)
take me all the way

I don't wanna go through the motions

Praying for Miracles

Thursday and Friday are two days that will change history. Well...history for 4 little kids, a couple of adoptive families, and some birth parents. These two days are court for the (potential) termination of parental rights for the two little guys "B" & "A" that we plan to adopt, as well as their two younger siblings.

Please pray. Pray that God will be honored. Pray that the Judge will be given wisdom and insight. Pray for the birth parents...pray that they won't drag this out - pray that they'll 'surrender' their rights. It's time.

Pray especially for "B" & "A". They don't know what's going on - they don't understand. But, they will feel the biggest impact of the next two days. Pray for us - as we begin to parent and love these boys.
